I. Overview

This tool is used to aid the user in detecting collusion by searching the database and searching for situations where two players tend to play differently when together versus alone.

WARNING: The collusion tool IN NO WAY finds or excludes the possibility of collusion, it just points the user to potential collusion for further investigation. Also, there are methods of collusion this tool will not detect. Use the PokerStat collusion tool at your own risk. Always use your own judgment and further investigate any results produced by the PokerStat collusion tool!

COLLUSION

II. Usage

The collusion tool works by calculating statistics for two players when they are playing at the same table and not in the same hand, versus when they are playing at the same table and in the same hand. It compares their statistics in these two situations, and if they are different by a set amount (you can change these settings in the options), it displays a warning message of possible collusion. Note that two players may play differently when together because one of the players is a fish, and the other player plays differently against that fish.

You can enter up to 10 players in this list here. The collusion tool will test all combinations of 2 players out of the list of players you enter here. You must enter at least two players.

Here is what it calculates for every combination of 2 players at a table:

Stats for PokerIsFun and Up2NoGood:
Hands together (player 1): 17% (48/269)
Hands together (player 2): 62% (48/77)
When both players in the same hand:
Showdowns/saw flop, alone (1): 25% (1/4)
Showdowns/saw flop, alone (2): 36% (7/19)
Showdowns/saw flop, together (1): 52% (9/17)
Showdowns/saw flop, together (2): 47% (8/17)
Bets or raises/actions, alone (player 1): 11% (1/9)
Bets or raises/actions, alone (player 2): 27% (17/62)
Bets or raises/actions, together (player 1): 55% (26/47)
Bets or raises/actions, together (player 2): 19% (11/57)

First, the number of hands each player has played together divided by the number of hands that that player has played total is shown. If two players only play hands together, it is likely they know each other and like to play with each other, or maybe one of the players is a fish, and the other player seeks him/her out. This statistic should not be used to judge for possible collusion.

Then, the next stats ONLY apply when both players are in the same hand. Alone means only one of the two players saw the flop. Together means both players saw the flop at the same time. In each of these two situations (alone or together), the following is calculated:
-> Times Shown down / saw flop
-> Bets or Raises / all actions

Now, what hands qualify using the collusion tool as "potential collusion"? The collusion tool uses the following criteria (the criteria numbers can be set in the options).

Now, what does the "showdown difference" and "bet/raise difference" mean? It's calculated like this, let's use the above as an example, and calculate the "bet/raise difference":

Bets or raises/actions, alone (player 1): 11% (1/9)
Bets or raises/actions, alone (player 2): 27% (17/62)
Bets or raises/actions, together (player 1): 55% (26/47)
Bets or raises/actions, together (player 2): 19% (11/57)
Player 1's bet/raise percentage when alone versus when together is different by 44% (55% versus 11%), and player 2's is different by 8% (27% versus 19%). Add these up and you get 54% (44% + 8%). If the option for "bet/raise difference" is set at 54% or below, these two players will be flagged for possible collusion. By default, the "bet/raise difference" is set at 35%.

III. Options

These are the options you can set. Please see the Usage section for descriptions of how these options are used.

"Hands together" specifies the number of hands two players need to play together in order to qualify for consideration for possible collusion. The more hands two players have played together, the more accurate this tool is. The default is 75 hands, which is rather loose, but more players will qualify for consideration for possible collusion. Increase this number to get more accurate results, but fewer combinations of 2 players will qualify for consideration for possible collusion.

"showdown difference" specifies the sum of the difference in the showdown percentages of each player when alone versus together that is required to warn for possible collusion.

"Bet/raise difference" specifies the sum of the difference in the bet/raise percentages of each player when alone versus together that is required to warn for possible collusion.
